A report in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that women who began walking a mile a day after age 65 reduced their risk of dying of heart disease, cancer or any other cause by about 50% as compared to women who were sedentary. A study reported in the Archives of Internal Medicine in 2005, showed that moderate and high activity levels resulted in extended life expectancy and helped reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
