4 Hour Body

How many of you know about Tim Ferriss?  He’s an interesting guy.  He wrote a book several years ago called Four Hour Work Week, which I enjoyed.  He has now released his second book, which I have read and am re-reading.  I enjoyed it immensely.  The book is entitled, “The 4-Hour Body.”  If you are interested in losing weight, gaining muscle, holding your breath and any number of other physical tasks, Tim is your man.  He condenses the available science down for you and tests it on himself. Here’s the link to the book on Amazon.  It’s a very...

Coffee, Pee & Me

The post title must create curiosity according to expert copywriters. Well, did I succeed in hooking you with this one? I thought so. Anyway, let’s get to the point of this post. ”Women who consume high levels of caffeine are 70% more likely to have urinary incontinence than women who don’t,” according to Jon Gleason, MD, an instructor and fellow at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical School’s Division of Women’s Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. I guess we should have seen that coming.  I mean, did you ever drink too much coffee?  What’s the result (other than jitters)?...

Science vs. Alternative Health

September 27, 2010

OK, I’m guilty.  I do lean toward the “natural health” side of the equation, and the article I’m about to report on doesn’t change my mind.  All you have to do is watch an hour or so of TV and you’ll see many commercial advertisements for prescriptions medications. Those ads are not cheap.  There’s big money in medicine and pharmaceuticals these days, and you’re naive if you think those big bucks don’t influence medical treatment.  And, while you’re watching those commercials, listen carefully to the disclaimers toward the end that they read so fast they hope you won’t notice....

Diet Sodas Make You Fat!

September 23, 2010

Listen, if it’s not obvious, I am not a nutritionist or other qualified scientist in the field of health and nutrition.  I blog about stuff related to fitness that interests me.  Giving myself a little credit, I think I’m a pretty fair researcher and I do have a lot of curiosity about health and fitness. All that is said to lead into this interesting report about the use of “diet” soft drinks.  I have “known” in my heart that those things can’t be good for you.  Let’s face it, conventional sodas are toxic – basically a bottle or can...

Stink or Die!

September 12, 2010

What in the world am I talking about now?  Stink or Die – what does that mean.  Glad you asked.  Here it is. Did you know that absorbing any amount of aluminum into your body is harmful. And guess what else – the way it gets into your body makes a big difference. It seems unavoidable these days that we are going to be exposed to aluminum.  It enters our bodies when we breathe, eat, or drink.  But only a fraction is absorbed by our bodies this way because our lungs, stomachs, and kidneys work together and eliminate over...
