The Kaizen of Weight Loss

January 24, 2010
By I Dig Fitness

I’ll bet a bunch of you Fitness Diggers are trying to lose a few (or more than a few) pounds, especially having just come through Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day if you’re in the USA.  And, the Super Bowl is coming too – another opportunity to eat too much of the wrong kind of food.

If you’re like most who are trying to lose weight, you’ve been “trying” for most of your adult life.  True?

Why do we have such a difficult time with losing pounds?  Well, there are a number of factors in play, but one of the significant ones that’s often overlooked or intentionally hidden by the marketers of diet programs and weight loss paraphernalia is our desire for the quick fix.  I  think that’s resulted in more failed diets than perhaps any other factor.

Unless your wedding is coming up, what’s the hurry?  Don’t you think it would make more sense to make small adjustments in the food you eat and the activities you do (or don’t do), and let the pounds come off over time?

Trying to lose a pound a day is a recipe for failure.  Losing a pound a week, or even a pound every other week is easy.  I mean really easy.  Hey, that’s 52 pounds (or 26 pounds) a year.  And that’s what I’m talking about with the “Kaizen of Weight Loss.”  “Kaizen” is a Japanese word that roughly translates to continuous improvement.  It works in all areas of life, and especially in weight loss.  If you just improve the smallest amount EVERY day, you will be astounded at the results you achieve (and so will your friends and family).

So, get to gettin’.  Kaizen those extra pounds right off your body.
