This is a follow-up to an earlier post regarding the potential health benefits of consuming coffee. [A caveat: I am a coffee drinker and am obviously biased.]
The December 29, 2009 issue of the Wall Street Journal had a huge article in its “Personal Journal” section discussing some of the potential “perks” of drinking coffee, including studies that indicate:
- Coffee may lower the risk of developing advanced prostate cancer
- Lowering the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease by as much as 65% in men
- Reducing the risk of stroke by as much as 43% in women
- Reducing the risk of Type 2 diabetes
- Reducing the risk of gallstones
- Lowers the risk of committing suicide
These studies are far from conclusive, and the issue is still far from resolved. And, there are also health risks associated with consumption (or over-consumption) of coffee. So put this information in your “For What It’s Worth” basket.
