Another Year – Another Resolution (or So)
The New Year is coming on fast, and each year around this time we all become both introspective and forward-looking. We reflect on the year gone by, usually with emphasis on our failures, and we resolve to do better. And nowhere is this mental process more prevalent than in the realm of our physical fitness – especially our desire to weigh less.
Even though I have made many (and I do mean “many”) New Year’s Resolutions that I failed to keep, I am still a big fan of the process of taking time to consider both my successes and my failures, and to resolve to improve. Hope springs eternal. To me, there is something therapeutic in this process.
I read a comment recently that hit home with me. Unfortunately, I don’t remember where and can’t give the author due credit. The comment was that rather than making new resolutions each year, we should just try to keep the ones we have already made. Ouch! But very true. Often, my New Year’s Resolutions are repeats of prior resolutions.
I shall not, however, be deterred. Resolutions I shall make, and my quest for fitness and health shall continue, however imperfect.
